I've been where you are. Lost, betrayed, hurt, overwhelmed, scared, unsure and alone. I'm sure there's more I could list but I think you get my point. My life experiences have brought me to where I am today, as divorce coach. I want to introduce myself to you and let you know a little bit about me.
As a child of divorce, navigating the new and uncharted waters of my family unit no longer being together, was my new way of life. Growing up with stepparents, stepsiblings and new family members was, to say the least, interesting. New city, new home, new school, and new friends all happening at the tender teenage years. Yikes! I survived with a few lessons learned, that's for sure.
Next chapter of my life, having a child and my partner working in another province. I referred to myself as a "sometimes single mom". I learned to become an independent woman and a strong mom during those years. Working full time, raising my daughter, taking care of dogs and running a household was tough. Then came the breakup and becoming an actual single mom. Not only having to deal with raising a young child on my own, but having to process the hurt, sadness and stress of a separation. How am I going to support myself and my child? Where am I going to live? What about custody and access?
Once I was ready, the dreaded phase of entering the dating scene came next. Who would want a single mom? Can I trust someone to be around my child? Who is this person? Will I get hurt? Will my daughter get attached and hurt too if they decide to leave? Do I have time to date? I'm happy single, do I need a partner? All of these questions and emotions were raging through me during this time. I put my toe into the water and luckily found someone. He had two children, and we married a few years later. Managing the relationships with the ex-partners and with trying to blend families, we sadly ended the marriage. Although it was amicable, doesn't mean there wasn't intense emotions felt. Looking back, there were decisions I made throughout my life which was based on emotions, and I deeply regret. This leads to me becoming a divorce coach.
My experiences led friends and family to seek my advice on divorce and co-parenting. Realizing I could help more people, I became a certified divorce coach. Now, as the only certified divorce coach in Newfoundland and Labrador, I use my personal and professional experiences to help others navigate the storms of separation and divorce.
